"She was born in Boise, Idaho in 1984, the only child of Native American parents. Zima knew her life was going to be different, as she was adopted by two white families. She attended Boise's Timberline High School, and fought to keep her identity secret until she was 21. In 2007, at the age of 24, she became the youngest person ever to be elected as a delegate to the United States National Congress from Idaho. She served from 2009 to 2013, and was the only woman ever to serve in that role. After stepping down, she announced her candidacy for U.S. Senate in 2016. Zima lost in the election, but her story galvanized other women to pursue public service. (V)"
