Tammy Wynette (born Virginia Wynette Pugh on May 5, 1942 in Itawamba County, Mississippi) was a singer-songwriter, TV actress, and author who was best known for singing country music and being called the "First Lady of Country Music". She is considered among the genre's most influential and successful artists. Tammy died on April 6, 1998 and her death was reportedly because of a pulmonary embolism. She died too soon at age 55.
