"She was born Vivien Leigh in 1892 in Bindon Park, near the estate of the Leigh family. Vivien was the daughter of an artist and an actress, and she was educated at home by her mother. After a year of training, Leigh made her stage debut in 1901, in a regional production of Noel Coward's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". After features in films and a series of successful tours, she was signed to a personal contract by MGM in 1903. In her first movie, "The Misfits", she played the role of a brainwashed girl. The movie generated a great deal of critical and popular acclaim, and it made her one of the most well-known and successful actors of her era. In 1935 she appeared in "The Picture of Dorian Gray" for which she was nominated for an Oscar. She died in 1951, aged 79. (V)"
