For many the funeral program will become a keepsake or a final memento so it should be both informative and thought provoking.

Examples of an obituary:

A good example of an obituary contains the following:

  • Full legal name of deceased
  • Birth date and death date of the deceased
  • Funeral date
  • Name of the person officiating the service
  • Place of interment
  • Time of internment if not immediately after the funeral service
  • A photo for the cover: Perhaps a sunrise or sunset, a nature scene, flowers, trees, plants, rosaries or other religious symbols or simply a photo of the deceased.
  • A favorite Poem or part of a song
  • List of surviving family members
  • Brief biography
  • Photos of the deceased
  • Artwork by the deceased or from family members
  • Amusing or funny anecdotes
  • Words of gratitude from the family to those who attended the service
  • The names of charities where donations may be made
  • Funeral location

John Paul, 79, Buffalo resident for 36 years, died Thursday morning in a Buffalo hospital. Born in Miami FL. He and Susan Jones were married on August 12,1950 near Rochester, NY. He was as an electrician with Energy Flow Electrical in Buffalo where he retired in the fall of 1998. He was a member of Uptown Baptist Church in Buffalo NY, and a former deacon of Southside Baptist Church in Rottenburg.

Survived by wife of 34 years, Susan Kelley, Dallas; daughter & son-in-law Wanda & Gary Grimm, Grand Prairie, TX; son & daughter-in-law Mike & Darla Kelley, Houston, TX; daughter & son-in-law Karen & David Martel, Grand Prairie, TX; his one and only granddaughter, Courtney Martel; one brother, Jim Kelley, Emory, TX; two sisters, Ailene Latham and Annie Franklin, both of Emory, TX., numerous nieces and nephews.

Services 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2009 Uptown Baptist Chirch, Buffalo, NY. Officiating, Reverend Tom Jones and Reverend John James. Internment 1:30 P.M. Bony Cemetery, Rochester, NY.
