Betty Shabazz (born May 28, 1934 in Pinehurst, Georgia) was an academic and activist who was best known for attending the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama and for being the wife of Malcom X. Betty died on June 23, 1997 and her death was because her grandson Malcom Shabazz set a fire in her apartment and she suffered severe, and eventually terminal burns. She died too soon at age 61.
