Carl Edward Sagan (born November 9, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York) was an astrologer, author, and academic who was best known for playing a leading role in the American space program from its very beginning and was a consultant and adviser to NASA starting in the 1950s. Carl died on December 20, 1996 and his death was because of pneumonia. He died too soon at age 62.
