Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr. (born April 29, 1951 in Kannapolis, North Carolina) was an automobile racer who was best known for racing from 1975 to 2001 in the former American stock car series, NASCAR Winston Cup. He also drove the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing team. Dale died on February 18, 2001 and his death was because of an auto racing crash during the final lap of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. He died young at age 49.
