She was educated at the University of Florida and Yale University, where she earned a degree in history. She worked as a journalist and a diplomat before becoming an actress. Douglas first gained recognition for her role as the troubled teenage girl in the Academy Award-winning The United States of America (1958). She appeared in other acclaimed films such as The Graduate (1967), The Look of Silence (2002), and Mildred Pierce (1985). She died on January 26, 2019, at the age of 88. (V)"
