Ella Jane Fitzgerald (born April 25, 1917 in Newport News, Virginia) was a singer who was best known for her "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly when scat singing. She was referred to as the "First Lady of Song", "Queen of Jazz", and "Lady Ella". Ella died on June 15, 1996 and her death was because of complications of diabetes. She died at age 79.
