Elmo Russell Zumwalt Jr. (born November 29, 1920 in San Francisco, California) was a military personnel who was best known for being the youngest person to serve as Chief of Naval Operations and was an admiral and later the 19th Chief of Naval Operations. Elmo died on January 2, 2000 and his death was because of mesothelioma. He died at age 79.
