Fannie Lou Hamer (born October 6, 1917 in Montgomery County, Mississippi) was an activist who was best known for being the co-founder and vice-chair of the Freedom Democratic Party, which she represented at the 1964 Democratic National Convention. Fannie died on March 14, 1977 and her death was because of breast cancer. She died fairly young at age 59 years of age.
