Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti (born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti on October 15, 1938 in Abeokuta, Nigeria) was a musician, composer, and activist who was best known for being the pioneer of the music style called "Afrobeat", which is a Nigerian music genre that combines West African music with American style funk and jazz. Fela died on August 2, 1997 and his death was because of AIDS/HIV. He died too early at age 58.
