Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle, OM, KBE, CB, FRS, FRAes (born June 1, 1907 in Coventry, England) was an inventor and military personnel who was best known for inventing the turbo jet engine and for serving in the Royal Air Force. Frank died on August 8, 1996 and his death was because of lung cancer. He died at age 89.
