George Smathers

George (born November 14, 1913 in Atlantic City, New Jersey) was a politician and lawyer who was best known for being in the United States House from 1947 to 1951 as a member of the Democratic Party. Later he represented the state of Florida in the United States Senate from 1951 until 1969. George died on January 20, 2007 and his death was reportedly because of a stroke. He died at age 93.
