Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper Jr. (born March 6, 1927 in Shawnee, Oklahoma) was an astronaut who was best known for being the youngest of the seven original astronaut in Project Mercury to send a human into space and return. Gordon died on October 4, 2004 and his death was because of heart failure. He died at age 77.
