Gwendolyn Guthrie (born July 9, 1950 in Newark, New Jersey) was a singer-songwriter and musician who was best known for singing backing vocals for such artists as Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Peter Tosh, and Madonna. Gwen died on February 3, 1999 and her death was because of uterine cancer. She died young at age 48.
