Irena Stanisława Sendler (born February 15, 1910 in Warsaw, Poland) was a philanthropist and academic who was best known for being a humanitarian, social worker, and nurse that served in the Polish Underground Resistance during World War II. Irena died on May 12, 2008 and her death was possibly because of old age. She died at age 98.
