James Francis Durante (born February 10, 1893, in Manhattan, New York) was a TV Actor, comedian, singer, and pianist who was best known for his distinctive gravelly speech, Lower East Side accent, comic language-butchery, jazz-influenced songs, and prominent nose which made him one of America's most familiar and popular personalities of the 1920s through the 1970s. Jimmy died on January 29, 1980 and the reason for his death was pneumonia. He died at age 86, 12 days before his 87th birthday.
