Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (born October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India) was a lawyer and politician who was best known for employing nonviolent resistance in a campaign for India's independence from British rule. He also inspired a movement for civil rights and freedom across the world. Mahatma died on January 30, 1948 and his death was because he was assassinated. He died at age 78.
