Mark Steven Fidrych (born August 14, 1954 in Worcester, Massachusetts) was a baseball player who was best known for pitching for the American, Major League Baseball (MLB) team, the Detroit Tigers from 1976 to 1980. He was nicknamed “The Bird”. Mark died on April 13, 2009 and his death was reportedly because of accidental suffocation from carbon monoxide poisoning while working on his truck. He died altogether too soon at just 54.
