Robert Jordon Gatling (born September 12, 1818 in Hertford County, North Carolina) was an inventor who was best known for the invention of the Gatling gun. The gun is considered to be the first machine gun. Robert died on February 26, 1903 and his death was because of heart failure. He died at age 84.
