Robert Coleman Atkins (born October 17, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio) was a physician who was best known for being best known for creating the "Atkins Diet" which was one of the biggest fad diets of the time. The Atkins Diet required close control of carbohydrate consumption and emphasizes protein and fat to control the number of carbohydrates from vegetables. Robert died on April 17, 2003 and his death was because he fell and hit his head on an icy sidewalk. He died at age 72.
