Sam Hormusji Framji Jamsedji Manekshaw MC (born April 3, 1914 in Amritsar, India) was a military personnel who was best known for serving as the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and also for being the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. Sam died on June 27, 2008 and his death was because of complications from pneumonia. He died at age 94.
