Samuel Cornelius Philips (born January 5, 1923 in Florence, Alabama) was a record producer and businessperson who was best known for being the founder of Sun Records and Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, where he produced recordings by Elvis Presley] Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Howlin' Wolf. Sam died on July 30, 2003 and his death was because of respiratory failure. He died at age 80.
