Sammi Smith (born August 5, 1943 in Orange County, California) was a singer-songwriter who was best known for recording the country-pop crossover hit, "Help Me Make It Through the Night", which was written by Kris Kristofferson in 1971 . Sammi died on February 12, 2005 and her death was because of emphysema. She died too soon at age 61.
