Shelby Fredrick “Sheb” Wooley (born April 10, 1921 in Erick, Oklahoma) was a singer-songwriter, film actor, and comedian who was best known for recording the 1958 hit rock and roll comedy single "The Purple People Eater". Later, under the name Ben Colder, he recorded the country hit "Almost Persuaded No. 2”. Sheb died on September 16, 2003 and his death was because of leukemia. He died at age 82.
