Shirley Hardie Jackson (born December 14, 1916 in San Francisco, California) was a writer and novelist who was best known for her works in the horror and mystery genre, and also for her most notable 1948 short story, “The Lottery." Shirley died on August 8, 1965 and her death was reportedly because of a heart attack due to arteriosclerosis. She died young at age 48.
