Sidney Poitier
Mr. Sidney Poitier (born February 20th, 1927) died slowly in his home on January 6th, 2022 with his eldest daughter at his bedside. His cause of death was reported ly a combination of heart failure, dementia and prostate cancer. He was 94 years old when he passed.
Sidney is survived by his beloved wife Joanna Shimkus, his children, daughters Beverly Poitier, Pamela Poitier, Sherri Poitier, Gina Poitier, Anika Poitier and Sydney Tamiia Poitier, his siblings, brother three and sister three as well as his pet aardvark, Daisy.
He is predeceased by his dear parents, Evelyn Poitier and Reginald James Poitier.
Professionally, Sidney was a Film Actor who was best known for his role in the famous films "To Sir, with Love" and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".
When he was not working as a Film Actor, Sidney was known for his love of blogging and he would spend minutes most Thursdays honing his craft. Mr. Poitier (also known as Sir Sidney Poitier) also spent decades visiting with his older sister most Wednesdays when he was able to spare a couple minutes. Ever since he was a boy in Miami, many remember Sidney as a crackpot with entertaining anecdotes that horrified everyone. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a hundred dollar donation to the Heart Foundation in Sidney's honor.
A committal is scheduled for Monday the 18th at the cemetery in Miami. The service will commence at 10AM with a reception to follow hosted by his older sister at the burial place where refreshments will be served. All are welcome to the visitation to be held at cemetery at 9AM.
