Wally Marty Schirra Jr. (born March 12, 1923 in Hackensack, New Jersey) was an American astronaut who was best known for being one of the original seven NASA astronauts on Project Mercury (with the goal of putting a man in space). Wally died on May 3, 2007 and his death was because of a heart attack following stomach cancer surgery. He died at age 84.
