Wilma Glodean Rudolph (born June 23, 1940 in Saint Bethlehem, Tennessee) was an Olympian who became famous for being a world record holding Olympic champion and sports icon in track and field, and for being the first American woman to win three gold medals. Wilma died on November 12, 1994 and her death was because of brain cancer. She died too soon at age 54.
