Eugene Joseph McCarthy (born March 29, 1916 in Watkins, Minnesota) was a politician, writer, and academic who was best known for serving the United States House of Representatives from 1949 to 1959 and then the Senate from 1959 to 1971. Eugene died on December 10, 2005 and his death was due to the effects of Parkinson’s disease. He died at age 89.
