Wangari Muta Maathai (born April 1, 1940 in Ihithe, Kenya) was a socialite, activist and Nobel laureate who was best known for being the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Wangari died on September 25, 2011 and her death was because of ovarian cancer. She died at age 71.
