William Smith Monroe (born September 13, 1911 in Rosine, Kentucky) was a musician and singer-songwriter who was best known for creating the Bluegrass music genre and for being known as “Father of Bluegrass.” Bill died on September 9, 1996 and his death was because of a stroke. He died at age 84 just four days before his 85th birthday.
